[] at NFL.comD'Brickashaw Montgomery Ferguson, nicknamed Brick (born December 10, 1983 in Freeport, New York), is an American football offensive tackle for the New York Jets. D'Brickashaw was the 4th overall selection in the 2006 NFL Draft. He was one of six players the NFL invited to New York for the draft events.
In official team measurements taken prior to the draft, D'Brickashaw stood 6 ft 6 in and weighed 305 lb (2.01 m, 138 kg). As an undersized offensive tackle, D'Brickashaw's talent is found in his lower body strength, athleticism and flexibility. This athleticism and flexibility is further evidenced in his attaining a black belt in taekwondo. Adding to that ability is his natural build, as Ferguson has a wingspan of 87 inches (2.21 m).
Ferguson is named after Father Ralph de Bricassart, a fictional character on the 1983 mini-series The Thorn Birds, played by Richard Chamberlain.
College Career
At the University of Virginia, Ferguson started his college career listed at 260 pounds (118 kg), often dropping to 245 pounds (111 kg) through the regular season. He started 49 games for the Cavaliers, and he was named to The Associated Press All-America first team during his final season. He was placed on the all-Atlantic Coast Conference first team two years in a row, and he became Virginia's first All-ACC offensive tackle since 1998. Ferguson started at left tackle in four consecutive bowl games for the Cavaliers. He accomplished these achievements while earning a religious studies degree in only 3.5 years and serving as a youth minister in his church.Professional Career
After being selected 4th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, Ferguson is expected to compete for the starting left tackle position in the 2006-2007 NFL season. He along with 29th overall pick Nick Mangold are the future building blocks of their offensive line.
