Dakara Superweapon
Encyclopedia : D : DA : DAK : Dakara Superweapon
In the Stargate science fiction universe, and more importantly the plot of Stargate SG-1 Season 8, the Dakara Superweapon is a hidden device capable of reducing all matter to its basic elemental components. It is located at the Temple of Dakara, a holy site to the Free Jaffa Nation and the seat of its new government.
Origin
The Dakara Temple and the Dakara Superweapon was actually built by the Ancients, the creators of the Stargate network. The device apparently can also restructure the matter which it breaks down; according to Anubis, it was once used by the Ancients to create the precursors of all current life in the galaxy (actually, re-create it, after the plague that wiped out the Ancients devastated the entire Milky Way Galaxy). Thus deeming it as a weapon is disputable. Its effect is analgous to that of the infamous Genesis Device from Star Trek, but functions over a vastly wider area.Location
The device is located at the Temple of Dakara. It is said by all Jaffa that this Temple was the origin of their enslavement to the Goa'uld, the dominant evil aliens of the galaxy. At the Temple, Jaffa were given their strength and symbiotes. The Temple is the ultimate holy ground of the Goa'uld, who keep the Jaffa loyal by propagating lies that they are gods. The very idea of stepping into Dakara was unthinkable as long as the Goa'uld controlled it.Design
The Superweapon is designed to reduce all matter within its massive range to its basic atomic structure. It does this by propagating a disruptor wave that separates the atoms. The weapon is easily altered to fit one's needs. Its control panel has many blocks in a grid that may be moved lower or higher accordingly to alter the type of wave that the weapon emits. The default wave will break down any matter.
By examining the wave from Jack O'Neill's Replicator Disrupter (also of Ancient design), Samantha Carter was able to alter the weapon with help from Jacob Carter/Selmak and Baal to send out waves that would only cause Replicators to permanently disassemble, causing the end of all known Replicator threats.
Plot
The Jaffa rebellion, led mainly by Teal'c of SG-1 and Bra'tac, consists of Jaffa who secretly no longer worship the Goa'uld System Lords. They have been making minor attacks for years, but in the episode "Reckoning (Part 1)", Teal'c designs that they will seize the Temple of Dakara. This act will show all Jaffa that the Goa'uld are not Gods, for otherwise they would not have allowed such a holy place to be taken. In "Reckoning (Part 2)", the humanoid Replicator, known by fans as RepliCarter, and the Replicator army try to reach and destroy this weapon when they discover its existence from the mind of Daniel Jackson. It is the only thing capable of destroying them (also being capable of destroying anything).
Ultimately, RepliCarter and the Replicators are entirely destroyed when Samantha Carter uses the modified Superweapon. She extended its blast radius to cover the entire galaxy with the help of Baal. Baal rigged the Dakara Stargate to dial every other gate in the galaxy simultaneously (using the gates' automatic update system which he previously exploited in "Avenger 2.0"). This meant that when the weapon went off, its effect passed through the Stargates and covered all points in the galaxy.
Shortly after the destruction of the Replicators, the Superweapon was destroyed by the Jaffa in the episode "Threads" due to the potential threat that Anubis posed if he took control over the weapon. It was Anubis' original plan to seize the weapon, destroy all life in the galaxy, and rebuild the galaxy as he saw fit. He alone would have been immune to its effects due to his half-Ascended state.
} It is later revealed that the Jaffa never actually destroyed the weapon on Dakara. They use it in Season 10 to strike against and wipe out Ori-controlled planets.
The Temple of Dakara is held by the Jaffa Rebellion when Baal flees under their victory, and this marks the ultimate success of the rebellion.
