Daphne Akhurst

Daphne Akhurst (later Daphne Cozens) was an Australian tennis player born in April 22 1903 in Ashfield. She won the Australian Open Women's Singles championship in 1925, 1926, 1928, 1929, and 1930, for a total of five victories, the third most in that competition, behind only Margaret Smith Court with 11 and Nancye Wynne with 6.
She died during childbirth in January 9 1933 in Sydney at the age of 29, prompting the Australian Open Women's Singles Trophy to be named the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup in her honour.
She was inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame on Australia Day, 26 January 2006.
