Date Movie is a 2006 spoof of romantic comedies directed and written by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, two of the writers of the first Scary Movie. It stars Sophie Monk, Alyson Hannigan, Adam Campbell, Eddie Griffin and Fred Willard. The film was released on DVD on May 30, 2006.

Plot

Movies spoofed are Say Anything, Moulin Rouge!,Bridget Jones' Diary,Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Kill Bill, Napoleon Dynamite, Hitch, ', ', King Kong, Fight Club, Along Came Polly, Shallow Hal, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, Legally Blonde, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Jerry Maguire, Notting Hill, Sweet Home Alabama, Monster In Law, Mean Girls, Spider-Man 2, , What Women Want, White Chicks, Princess Diaries, The Birdcage, The Notebook, Meet the Parents, The Wizard of Oz, Freaky Friday, Bend It Like Beckham,The Wedding Planner, My Best Friend's Wedding, and Wedding Crashers. Also parodied are television shows Pimp My Ride and The Bachelorette (Nina Avetisova appears in this particular parody), Paris Hilton's Carl's Jr. / Hardee's advertisement, and Michael Jackson. The film also spoofs the TV series' , Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy and The Price Is Right. There is also a reference to the television advertisements for the Girls Gone Wild videos and the internet phenomenon Bumfights. Candy Shop by 50 Cent was also parodied by the film.

Response

Reviews

Audience response has been generally negative (though some considered it in the vein of films "so bad, they're good"); it was voted into the Bottom 100 on the IMDb within days of its release. In addition, it performed moderately well at the box office, but received nearly unanimously bad reviews, with a 7% "Fresh" rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

Box office

In its first week of release, the film grossed a total of 21.8 million dollars at the United States Box office.

As of March 19, 2006, the film grossed a total of 46.5 million dollars in the United States Box Office.

Rated PG-13 for continuous crude and sexual humor, including language.

DVD

The DVD has been released on May 30, 2006. The DVD is unrated though there aren't really that much of scenes that are unrated, mostly on foul language.

The DVD comes with a English, French, 2 commentaries, an anti-commentary and an audience track from a test screening.
