Daughters of Ægir

In Norse mythology, Ægir and Rán have nine daughters, sometimes called billow maidens in English. Their names are poetic names for waves. They may be identical with the mothers of Heimdallr.
In the Skáldskaparmál section of Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda the names of Ægir's daughters are recorded.

- Himinglæva - That through which one can see the heaven.
- Dúfa - The Pitching One.
- Blóðughadda - Bloody-Hair.
- Hefring - Riser.
- Uðr - Frothing Wave.
- Hrönn - Welling Wave.
- Bylgja - Billow.
- Dröfn - Foam-Fleck.
- Kólga - Poetical term for Wave. "The Cool One".
