Dauphin is a city in Manitoba, Canada, with an approximate population of 8 085. Founded in 1898, it became an important centre for the transportation of grain. Farming still plays a central role in the economy of the area, but its role has been greatly reduced. The current mayor of Dauphin is Alex Paul, a former high school teacher. Inky Mark, also a former high school teacher, is the current Member of Parliament for the Dauphin-Swan River riding. Stan Struthers is the current Member of the Legislative Assembly and is the Minister of Conservation for the Province of Manitoba. Dauphin plays host to several summer festivals, including Dauphin's Countryfest and Canada's National Ukrainian Festival. Dauphin is also the city from which the Canadian Ball Hockey League team the Dauphin Professionals hail.
