Encyclopedia : D : DA : DAV : Dave Callan

For the other Australian comedian by the same name, see Dave Callan (Sydney).
Dave Callan is a comedian based in Melbourne, Australia. He was originally from Ireland. He currently works as a Triple J radio DJ.

Callan hosted the Triple J program The Graveyard Shift on Sundays from 1am - 6am for most of 2005, until it was discontinued. He continues to host the Triple J show Saturday Night from 6pm until 9pm on Saturday evenings.

Dave first gained serious popularity while performing on Rove (Network Nine) and on the first series of Rove Live (Network Ten), but left the show to pursue his love for stand up. Touring internationally over the next few years, Callan had successful shows each year in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (i.e. 'Dave Callan is Hairy', 'Dave Callan's wonderful world', 'Bare faced cheek' etc.) performing often at the festival club. He occasionally is referred to as 'Danger Dave'.

In 2005, a joint show with Sam Simmons (also with Tim Harris and Steve Bunce), The Sunshine Factory was nominated for a Gibbo award at the festival and tickets sold out at his Crown Casino show 'Show us your roots' (which was performed with a group of other comedians).
