David Asper

David Asper is a Canadian businessman and lawyer. He is currently a Vice-President of the Canadian media company CanWest Global Communications Corp. He is also chairman of Canwest's flagship National Post newspaper.
Asper is the eldest son of the late Izzy Asper, founder of CanWest Global. He is the brother of Leonard Asper, current president of CanWest Global.
In the mid-1980s, Asper represented David Milgaard, who was wrongfully conficted of murder in 1970. With Asper arguing the case before the Supreme Court of Canada, Milgaard's conviction was overturned in 1992.[#endnote_cbc20060302a]
Asper endorsed Toronto Conservative candidate and former Global news anchor Peter Kent in the 2006 Canadian federal election.
Asper is a former trustee of the Fraser Institute.
