David Legwand

David Legwand (born August 17, 1980, in Detroit, Michigan), is a professional ice hockey player for the Nashville Predators.

On on June 26, 1998 Legwand was chosen second overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft with the Predator's first pick. He was the first draft selection in franchise history.

Legwand was the first person in NHL history to score a game winning goal in overtime on a penalty shot.

Legwand began his professional hockey career with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. Legwand joined the Whalers as a shy youngster and emerged as the OHL's top prospect.

In scoring 54 goals with 51 assists for 105 points, Legwand led the OHL in the following categories:

Legwand joined Barrie's Daniel Tkaczuk one of two players in the OHL Coaches Poll to receive votes in four separate categories:
  1. Smartest Player,
  2. Most Dangerous in the Goal Area,
  3. Best Play Maker,
  4. Best Skater.
Legwand was voted the OHL's Most Valuable Player, the OHL's Rookie of the Year and made the OHL First All-Star Team.
