Daviess County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2000, the population was 29,820. The county seat is Washington6. On April 1, 2006, Daviess County switched from the Eastern Time Zone to the Central Time Zone. [link]
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,131 km² (437 mi²). 1,115 km² (431 mi²) of it is land and 16 km² (6 mi²) of it (1.42%) is water.History
Daviess County was formed in 1817. It was named for Maj. Joseph Hamilton Daviess, U.S. District Attorney for Kentucky, killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.Adjacent counties

There were 10,894 households out of which 35.50% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.80% were married couples living together, 8.70% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.20% were non-families. 25.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.24.
In the county the population was spread out with 29.00% under the age of 18, 8.60% from 18 to 24, 26.20% from 25 to 44, 21.70% from 45 to 64, and 14.60% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $34,064, and the median income for a family was $41,818. Males had a median income of $30,706 versus $20,102 for females. The per capita income for the county was $16,015. About 9.60% of families and 13.80% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.70% of those under age 18 and 12.00% of those age 65 or over.
