Death by Degrees is a Tekken spin-off released by Namco in 2005. Death by Degrees is an action/adventure game
Story
Nina Williams, world-renowned assassin, has been hired by the CIA and MI6 to work as part of a team that is infiltrating Kometa, a notorious, criminal organization. The team is specifically infiltrating through a fighting tournament on Amphitrite, Kometa's luxury cruise ship. Nina's cover job is a fighter. She also is the "sweeper"; should her partners fail, she will finish the job. Nina enters the competition, but is soon found out and incarcerated. She soon receives communication that her partners have failed and that it is now up to Nina to finish the job.
Nina must fight her way through the forces of Kometa and expose the truth behind the criminal activities. Things, however, become complicated; unbeknownst to her, her family has their own links to Kometa.
Gameplay
The game is fully controlled by the analogue sticks. The left analogue stick was touch-sensitive and through various degrees of holding, tapping or pressing along with other buttons allowed Nina to walk, run or evade. The right analogue stick is used for offensive moves.
The selling point of Death by Degrees is its ability to allow Nina to use her devastating martial art to break the bones and skeleton of her enemies through use of carefully aimed attacks. These attacks do more damage to the enemy and show the player a screen of the structure being broken in a X-ray-like viewpoint.
Arsenal
Nina can use various forms of weaponry throughout the game. The most common of these are:
- 9MM Handgun - standard semi-automatic weapon.
- Hand grenade - An explosive weapon capable of harming weapons within a short range
- 9MM Submachine Handgun - It is lightweight and compact and features superior automatic firing.
- Knife - standard combat knife.
- Poison ampoule - A vial filled with poison. Releases a damaging, poisonous mist.
- Tonfa - A police style baton. Tonfas can be wielded simultaneously.
- Katana - A sharp Japanese sword. Two can be wielded simultaneously.
- Yoshimitsu's sword from the Tekken series is a weapon Nina can obtain, called the Manji Clan Sword, it is a green glowing katana.
Trivia
- The game is perhaps not to be considered canon due to the fact that Anna Williams appears to be a member of Heihachi Mishima's Tekken Force. It is believed that this force wasn't established until post-Tekken 2. If it was, it was never mentioned.
- Once the game is completed, Anna Mode will be unlocked, offering the player the chance to play as the other Williams sister. Various outfits can be unlocked throughout the game, which include a bikini, cocktail dress, purple jumpsuit, black and silver stealth suit and a Tekken 2 model of Nina.
- When first rumored to be in the works, the game was tentatively titled Nina. After this, when more was known about the game, it was renamed Death by Degrees, a reference to its multiple-degree fighting system.
