Decade 90

Encyclopedia : D : DE : DEC : Decade 90

Decade 90 was a television news package composed by 615 Music. It was first used in 1989 by KCAL in Los Angeles, California. Its musical logo was created to sound like KCAL's nickname at the time, "California 9."

Although Decade 90 is no longer is in use (it was discontinued by 615 Music), it is unique in many ways: it is so far the only 615 Music-composed news music package with an image campaign song; it is the basis for the Viacom News Package currently used by KCAL and KCBS-TV as well as another KCAL news package, The Hammer. 615 Music, incidentally, composed both themes.

Lyrics

The following are the lyrics to the "Decade 90" image campaign song, as heard on KCAL:

''Out on the horizon,
''A new star is shining.
''It's bringing you fine times,
''it's gotta be nine times.

''Your times and my times,
''Nine times the action and fun
''California 9
''Daytime and nighttime
''Nine times are second to none.
''California 9
''Great times no doubt.
''Everyone keeps talking about
''California 9
''The party's only starting
''California 9
''We're dressed through the night
''Catch L.A. at its prime
''on California 9.
''California 9
''California 9

''Your times, my times
California 9
