Decimalization process

Encyclopedia : D : DE : DEC : Decimalization process

In the management of systems of measurement, a process of decimalization is the conversion to a "decimal" system, that is, one where the ratios between units measuring the same dimension involve only powers of ten.

Practical examples of decimalization include metrication, starting with Napoleon's metrication of France (incomplete in some English-speaking countries as of 2005), and decimalization of currency, essentially completed world-wide.

Informally, decimalization of time periods within the day sees occasional use.

Decimalization is generally advocated for reducing effort of calculations involving quantities of different scale.
