Profile

Academically the school has fared comparatively poor to state averages in both its SAT average and graduation rate. The graduation rate for the 2002-2003 academic year stood at 58.3% compared to the 69% state average, and in the 2003-2004 academic year, the school earned a SAT average of 938 versus the state mean of 991. However, Deerfield has several strong programs. Most notably, the school features an International Baccalaureate program [link] that offers college-level academics to many of Broward County's most talented students. In a typical year, Deerfield's International Baccalaureate graduates matriculate at some of the nation's top universities. For example, in recent years several graduates have attended Ivy League universities. Moreover, Deerfield has historically been a leader among Broward County schools in terms of the number of students winning prestigious Silver Knight Awards [link].

All Deerfield Beach High School graduates are eligible to receive a college scholarship sponsored by the estate of Deerfield Beach pioneers J.D. and Alice Butler [link].

This school is ranked #381 on Newsweek's 2005 list of the Best High Schools in America.[link].

Deerfield Beach High offers numerous after extracurricular activities, including several successful sports programs, arts organizations, and high school mainstays such as Key Club and the National Honor Society, and also Teen Connect.

Sports accomplishments

Boys' teams

In 1997, the boys' basketball team won the Class 5A State Championship.
In 1999, the boys' basketball team won the Class 6A State Championship.
In 2005, the Football team reached the Class 6A State Championship Game but fell to Palm Beach Gardens (49-29).

Girls' teams

In 2003, the girls' basketball team won the Class 6A State Championship.
In 2004, the girls' basketball team won the Class 6A State Championship.
