Default Radio is an internet radio talk show which focuses on various aspects of phone phreaking and telecommunications. Default Radio was started in 2003 by well known phone phreakers decoder and lucky225. Other regulars of the show were doug and nottheory. This original lineup is often considered the "Fab Four" of the phone phreaking community. decoder's vast knowledge of phone phreaking, brand of humor, and overuse of the "F-Word" helped make the show an instant success.
Topics of Default Radio were often that of ANI, Caller ID, VoIP, OP Diverting, exchange scanning, and other phreaking and telecommunications related subjects. The hosts also took call-ins and read email from listeners each week. There has been a total of 43 released episodes of Default Radio released to date.
The creation of Default Radio was sort of a spur of the moment situation. The idea of Default Radio was conceived by decoder in late 2003 after being inspired by another hacking and phreaking radio show called Radio FreeK America (RFA). decoder had asked lucky225 if he would be interested in starting a new internet radio show based on phone phreaking. lucky225 agreed. doug, later offered to record the show, and he became the show's chief engineer. The rest is history.
For the most part of 2005, no new episodes of Default Radio were produced. This was mainly due to legal conflicts. Then in early October of 2005, doug had started a thread on the Binary Revolution web forum hinting that Default Radio would be returning. Then on November 11, 2005, Default Radio had finally returned with a brand new episode. Many listeners were anticipating the original lineup with decoder, but sadly, he was not part of the show, due to his indictment.
