Deglet Noor (Arabic: 'translucent' or 'date of light') so named for the light center when held up to the sun light. It is a date cultivar grown primarily in Algeria and Tunisia; they are a chief date crop in the Coachella Valley of the United States as well.

Deglet Noor dates grown in Tunisia are that country's chief export cultivar. The dates themselves are somewhat dry in texture and slightly less sweet than many other cultivars. They are popular for use in baking and as snacks.

A street in Indio, California, USA, located in the Coachella Valley is named after the Deglet Noor.

Zahidi has the fattest trunk, the canopy is thick – cannot see through it, the leaves are glaucous blue, this cultivar has about one foot of aerial roots

Deglet Noor has a medium size trunk, the canopy is thin – can see through it, the leaves are lighter green, this cultivar can have four feet of aerial roots

Medjool has the largest number and longest pinnae Medjool and Zahidi are the best adapted to more humid (FL) or coastal areas (CA) Deglet Noor prefers more arid climates – inland (CA)
