Mature line

In early December 2005 it was announced[link] that Del Rey Manga would begin publishing a mature line of manga. They will be larger than the regular books, be shrink wrapped, and sell for $13.95.

Stylistic choices

Del Rey has made several choices in how they format their manga that has made them very popular and highly respected by the manga fans.

  1. They keep the manga in its original right to left reading format.
  2. They include detailed notes from the translators.
  3. Pages that were in color in the Japanese manga are colored in the Del Rey versions. (With the exception of "School Rumble")
  4. They keep the original Japanese sound effects intact while placing small English text next to them, keeping the art uneffected while allowing English readers to understand them.
  5. They include previews of the next manga volume with the original Japanese text, unless the next volume is already translated, in which case the preview is in English.
  6. They include the original honorific suffix at the ends of Japanese names (-san, -kun, etc) in all of their manga. In addition, Del Rey includes at the start of all of their titles a detailed explanation of the honorific system.
