History
Delta Phi Epsilon (ΔΦΕ) was founded on March 17, 1917 at New York University Law School. It was one of the first non-sectarian social sororities and the only one founded at a professional school. The five founding members are Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Eva Effron Robin, Ida Bienstock Landau, Sylvia Steirman Cohn, and Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman.Its flower is the Purple Iris and its' mascot is the Unicorn. The sisterhood badge is an equilateral triangle in gold surrounded by 21 pearls, their jewel. The sorority motto is "Esse Quam Videri" (in Latin: "To be rather than to seem to be"). The sorority is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.
Philanthropies
Delta Phi Epsilon has three international charities. These consist of The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation which helps to give members and their children the opportunity to further their education through grants and loans. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which helps benefit those with the genetic disease Cystic fibrosis, and the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD), which was created to help alleviate problems of anorexia and other eating disorders.Notable alumnae
