Demanufacture
Encyclopedia : D : DE : DEM : Demanufacture
Demanufacture is the second official album (not counting the previous EP Fear is the Mindkiller) by the Los Angeles groove metal/industrial band Fear Factory. It was released in June 1995. This is the band's first album with their classic line-up adding new bassist Christian Olde Wolbers.
It's unknown to some people that this album is actually a concept album. It's about a man who is fed up with the machine controlled government and wants to destroy it. Each song is a chapter in his life. It was believed the album took its inspiration from the movie, The Terminator[[Citing sources citation needed]].
After the release of this album there were many people who believed that drummer Raymond Herrera had in fact used a drum machine, due to the often blistering speed and machine-like precision of the drumming most notably on the bass drums. While he is known to use triggers on his drum sets, their only purpose is to change the sound of the drums. The fact he is able to reproduce the drums live proves his remarkable technique.
It was used without lyrics for the game Carmageddon.
This album originally had two mixes. They were by Monte Conner and the other by Colin Richardson. Because many felt Conner's mix was the best as it captured the electronic elements more than Richardson's mix which was more fixated on the guitars, Richardson's mix was rejected. The mix we hear now is Conner's mix. The Richardson mix of Zero Signal and Body Hammer can be found on the Hatefiles compliation.
The album was remastered and re-released in 2005, packaged together with the remixed Remanufacture - Cloning Technology.
