Elections in Italy

The Democratic Alliance was an Italian political party that was originally meant to be the container (mainly composed of former Republicans and former Communists of an alliance of left-wing forces for the parliamentary elections of 1994. However, the project did not succeed, and it presented itself as a minor party.

After an unremarkable result, its components entered the left-wing and later centre-left coalitions, with the notable exception of Ferdinando Adornato, who is now a member of Silvio Berlusconi's party, Forza Italia.

In 1996 the party evolved in Democratic Union with the entry of other Republicans, as Antonio Maccanico, and some Socialists, as Giorgio Benvenuto.
