The \"Lieberman Crisis\" of 2006
In the 2006 Connecticut Democratic primary campaign for the Senate, incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman faced an unexpectedly strong challenge from Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont, who enjoyed considerable backing from grassroots Democratic activists in Connecticut and bloggers, including Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga of Daily Kos. In response to the primary challenge, DSCC chair Charles Schumer refused to rule out continuing financial and logistic support for Lieberman if he were defeated in the primaries and chose to run for the Senate as an independent candidate.
