Dempsey & Makepeace was a mid-1980s British television crime drama, made by London Weekend Television for ITV, starring Glynis Barber and Michael Brandon, who later married on November 18, 1989.
The series lasted three seasons through 1985 and 1986. Although not well known in the USA, the series was popular in Europe.
The storyline involves the oddball pairing of two detectives: an elegant English noblewoman who works for Scotland Yard, and a streetwise working class American police detective who was sent to London as part of an international exchange. Much of the shows popularity relies on the good natured "will they or won't they" interplay between the main protagonists, made possible by the obvious chemistry between the two actors.

DVD Release
The first series (of three) is available on DVD (Region 2, U.K.) from Network and includes interviews and audio commentary on selected episodes with both Michael Brandon and Glynis Barber. Series two is currently scheduled for release on 26 June 2006.
