Derf of Many Worlds
Encyclopedia : D : DE : DER : Derf of Many Worlds
Derf of Many Worlds is a 2005 collaborative effort by experimental musicians Travis Johnson and Chris Underwood. The album further exemplifies Underwood's mastery of the bongos and Johnson's growing skills with the didgeridoo. It is mostly instrumental, though some contain short vocals; one track, for instance, contains a few verses sung by Underwood of a horrifying tale of athlete's foot. The original release on February 20th, 2005 was a four disc set. Some tracks were simply noise, others are intricate, heavily overdubbed compositions that some critics referred to simply as "ben".
Continuing with dark humor references such as their previous effort, Dr. Ronald Goes to the Proctologist, certain tracks have simple themes yet serious, underlying tones or hidden messages. When interviewed by famed journalist Maurice Hernandez, Johnson commented that anyone who did not find Derf of Many Worlds entertaining is a "fag" and "deserves to be clubbed in the throat with a whiffle bat". Johnson was later assaulted by a renegade horde of homosexuals and came out of the fight with several bruises and lacerations, claiming his attackers were "just confused" and "probably like gay shit like My Chemical Romance".
DAN SUCKS
In March, 2006, peinist Brendan Miller was recruited to go on tour with Johnson and Underwood to guest star on the Derf World tour. But two gigs into the tour, Miller's father died at the early age of 31 due to an unfortunate hat incident. Miller commented on the bands success so far, saying "Never before has a book made a harmonica sing like d d d derf."
