Desai is an Indian administrative title derived from the word "Dah Sai" which means 10 percent. Desais were like collectors who looked after a region or area on the King's behalf and in return would get 10 percent of the collection. Desais can be found all over India and can belong to various castes and communities. Some of the Notable Desais are :
- Morarji Desai - The late prime minister of India.
- Mahadev Desai - the secretary and assistant of Mahatma Gandhi.
- Balasaheb Desai - The late Home Minister and Revenue Minister of Maharashtra.
