Design research
Encyclopedia : D : DE : DES : Design research
Design research emerged as a recognisable discipline in the 1960s, initially marked by a conference on Design methods at Imperial College, London, in 1963. It built a network of practitioners and academics, and led to the founding of the Design Research Society (DRS) in 1967. The DRS conference proceedings and subsequently the journal [Design Studies] are primary references charting the development of the discipline. L. Bruce Archer founded the first Department of Design Research at the Royal College of Art, London, becoming the first Professor of Design Research.
