The Dettifoss is a waterfall located in the Mývatn area of North-Eastern Iceland. It is situated on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from glaciers. It is reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe, having a flow variously estimated at between 200 and 500 cubic metres of water per second, depending on the season and the summer ice melt. The falls are 100 m wide and have a drop of 44 m.
Near to Dettifoss there is another waterfall, the Selfoss.
Jökulsárgljúfur National Park can be found 15 km (9.3 mi) to the north.
