Encyclopedia : D : DE : DEU : Deutsches Theater

The Deutsches Theater in Berlin, Germany, is a well known theater. It was built in 1850 (as Friedrich-Wilhelm-Städtisches Theater, after Friedrich Wilhelm).

Friedrich Haase founded the Deutsches Theater in the late 1870s. In 1905, Max Reinhardt took over the directorship of the theater. This started the successful era of this theater.

While located in East Germany (GDR), the theater was renowned for its ensemble of actors.
