Dew Action Sports Tour
Encyclopedia : D : DE : DEW : Dew Action Sports Tour
Owned by NBC Universal and Live Nation, the Dew Action Sports Tour debuted in June 2005, and consists of five major, multi-sport events with a cumulative points system, a $2.5 million competitive purse - the largest in action sports - and an additional $1 million bonus pool based upon year-end standings. NBC and USA Network combine for exclusive Dew Action Sports Tour coverage with the largest combined network and cable commitment in action sports. The Tour features skateboarding (park and vert), BMX (park, vert, and dirt) and freestyle motocross, and at season’s end, the Tour awards champions in the six disciplines with the Dew Cup. Key lifestyle elements at each Tour event’s festival village includes live cutting-edge music, video gaming, and interactive events.
The name comes from the name of Mountain Dew, Tour's title sponsor.
On March 28, 2006, the Dew Action Sports Tour announced that NBC would broadcast some of the events. Later, they announced that the USA Network would also broadcast live events, as well as Fuel TV, a network dedicated to the world of extreme sports.

Host sites
The five host sites were selected from more than twenty prospective sites throughout the U.S. through a competitive bidding process. All five sites share a commitment with the Dew Action Sports Tour to develop and offer fans a first-class, community-based event.
Event types
The Dew Action Sports Tour features three sports, with each sport consisting of several different disciplines:
- BMX
- *Dirt: Riders will take runs on an all-dirt course made up of jumps of varying heights and distances. Judges will look for consistency, difficulty of tricks, and overall flow of each run.
- *Park: Riders try to put together the best possible run on a park-style course made up of spines, ramps, mini-ramps, wall rides and box jumps. Judges will look for overall flow, use of the course, linking tricks as well as difficulty of tricks when scoring a run.
- *Vert: Each rider will have a limited amount of time to put together their best run on this 80' wide half-pipe (BMX and SKB share the same ramp). Riders will be judged on flow, height and difficulty of tricks.
- Freestyle Motocross: The only motorized competition on the Dew Action Sports Tour, FMX features a course composed of metal takeoff ramps and dirt landings. Riders will be judged on their tricks over jumps that allow riders to reach distances of up to 90'.
- Skateboard
- *Park: The park-style course will allow skaters to showcase their technical skills as well as their ability to "go big". The combination of ledges and rails with larger park obstacles will bring out a myriad of different lines and tricks, which is what judges will look for.
- *Vert: Each rider will have a limited amount of time to put together their best run on this 80' wide half-pipe (SKB and BMX ride the same ramp). Riders will be judged on flow, height and difficulty of tricks.
