Dieter Dierks is a German record producer. He was born in Stommeln, Germany, son of a Jewish mother and Catholic father. He was the driving force behind the German rock band the Scorpions (band), from 1975 to 1990. He started out as an actor, but later became a sound engineer and record producer. He is the owner of the legendary Dierks Studios, (audio and video studios) located near Cologne, Germany. Artists that recorded at the studios include high profile names such as: Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Twisted Sister, Scorpions, Timothy Leary, Die Toten Hosen, Tangerine Dream and many others.
Dieter Dierks started his musical career in the bands: Hush, Ash Ra Temple, Nektar (part of the Cosmic Jokers project) and Tangerine Dream, soon becoming one of the figure heads of the "Krautrock" music genre.
He found his passion for Heavy Metal, when he and his ex-wife, Corina Fortmann, discovered the then unknown band "Scorpions". In 1975 he produced their first album together called: In Trance, then Virgin Killer (1976),Taken by Force (1978), Tokyo Tapes (1978), Lovedrive (1979), Animal Magnetism (1980), Blackout (1982), World Wide Live (1985), and Savage Amusement (1988).
The Scorpions became Germany's biggest band of all times, having world wide success, going several times Gold and Platinum.
Dieter Dierks also produced one album by Twisted Sister and several albums of Accept (Speed Metal Pioneers), and Nino De Angelo.
In 1990 he split with the Scorpions going on to invent a new technology, called the DVD Plus, which faced some controversy because of its American Version, the DualDisc.
He was married twice and has four children, of which two are the actor Michael Dierks and actress Dominique Schilling. His oldest daughter Michaela Dierks is a Music & TV Artist Promoter and his youngest son Julien Freundt is a Breakdancer.
In 2005, he returned to music production, when former Michael Jackson manager, Dieter Wiesner, approached him with the great new talent, Nisha Kataria. The production of her first album was completed in November of 2005.
