Disembowelment (band)
Encyclopedia : D : DI : DIS : Disembowelment (band)
Disembowelment (often written diSEMBOWELMENT) is an Australian death/doom metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 1989.
They played very slowly (and occasionally with great speed), and relied equally on the atmospheric effects of droning guitars and constant riffing.
Disembowelment is the band which many other doom metal groups honour as the forefathers of death/doom metal, along with the band Winter. Purveyors of doom metal know the band for their atmospheric chanting, slow riffs, and spiritual dark elements present in their symphonic, yet well executed playing style. Releasing under the Relapse Records label, their sole full-length album Transcendence into the Peripheral was met with praise as the band became an underground metal icon in the mid 1990s.
Transcendence Into The Peripheral exposed heavy metal fans to a slowly executed drumming styles, accompanied by death metal style vocals. Slow guitar riffs and drum executions filled the album. The ability of the band to play slowly most of the time but then at some points execute very fast metal increased their success.
Disembowelment split up after releasing only one official EP and one official album in 1994. Afterwards, two core members went on to form Trial Of The Bow.
