Charles "Doiby" Dickles was the sidekick for Alan Scott, earth's first Green Lantern. Doiby (Derby with a thick Brooklyn accent) worked as a Taxi driver, mostly for the Apex Broadcasting company, where Alan Scott was employed.

Early Career

Doiby started first adventure with Green Lantern occurred when Doiby followed the Lantern while he was trailing a group of thugs. After Green Lantern was supposedly killed by the thugs, Doiby confronted them in a Green Lantern costume in an attempt to stop them. Soon after, the actual Green Lantern appeared, and with the help of Doiby, saved the day. After that adventure, Green Lantern sent Doiby a quaint letter:
"Doiby--I could use a good man like you to help me in my fight against all evil-How about it? -The Green Lantern"The Golden Age Green Lantern Archives Vol. 1, DC Comics: New York, 1999
After that, Doiby began working with Alan Scott on a regular basis, eventually learning that the Green Lantern and Alan Scott were one and the same.

Later Career

Doiby and the Green Lantern had many adventures together, including taking on the Nazi's in the WWII era. As the Golden Age began to fade, Doiby was sent to a far off planet to marry their Queen, the aliens enjoying his vast wisdom, and Alan Scott went on with his solo career. Sometime later, Doiby joined a group called "Old Justice" made up of Golden Age heroes to take on Young Justice during the Sins of Youth storyline.

Current Status

With the help of Young Justice, Doiby has since rejoined the Queen. He appeared briefly in Infinite Crisis as one of the heroes defending Metropolis from the massed villains.
