Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

Encyclopedia : D : DO : DON : Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood is a 1996 film. A spoof, akin to the Wayans' previous effort I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, the film parodies black, coming-of-age, 'hood movies' such as Juice, South Central, Higher Learning, Menace II Society, Poetic Justice, New Jack City, Dead Presidents, and most prominently Boyz N the Hood, and also mixes the names of a few of the said titles to form the unorthodoxly long title of the movie.

Whereas I'm Gonna Git You Sucka was a critical satire of blaxploitation movies, this film is a critical satire of the 'hood movies' of the 1990s. This film skewers out the racism inherent in the popularity of 'hood movies', no matter their supposed "redeeming qualities".

The result of the massive popularity of 'hood movies' is that black actors are pushed and limited to roles of hoodlums, especially in the 1990s. This movie attempts to skewer that sociological phenomenon.
