The Dorapion is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, alongside the Cherimu and the Pachirisu. The purpose of the Dorapion in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers. Appearance
Dorapion appear to be more advanced scorpions, with two large claws, four short legs and stingers on the end of their tails. According to the press release, Dorapion's classification is noted as "Monster Scorpion Pokémon". Dorapion have purple exoskeletons and elongated bodies. Although not much is known about the Dorapion, some information has been released about its attacks and abilities. It can either have an existing ability, Battle Armor, or a new ability, Snipe, which increases the base power of attacks during Critical hits. The Dorapion can also learn the existing attack, Poison Fang, and a new attack, Cross Poison, which has an increased chance of Poisoning the opponent, or performing a Critical hit.
