Dried distillers grain (or distillers dried grain) is a cereal byproduct of the brewing process. It is created in distilleries by drying mash, and is subsequently sold for a variety of purposes, usually as fodder for livestock.

If estimates hold true for increased production at existing and planned ethanol plants, officials at the Nebraska Cattlemen's office believe Nebraska's livestock feeding industry will have to grow by 20 percent in the next two to three years to work through the estimated increase in distiller's grains. The grains are favored by cattle feeders for their feed value and are readily available as more and more ethanol plants are built across the state.

"We ate through the 2005 production and we did the numbers on expansions we know will come through and we'll eat through 2006 and probably 2007, but somewhere in 2008 to 2010 we will produce more distiller's grains than we currently have livestock for," said Nebraska Cattlemen President Pete McClymont.
