Drobe Mines

Encyclopedia : D : DR : DRO : Drobe Mines

Drobe Mines are a fictional space-weapon in the Star Trek fictional universe. When deployed, they wait in that location, or drift, until a suitable target is detected. Thrusters allow them to give chase to the vessel and destroy it.

There are two main types.

Bootleg

These are stolen Mrk I military issue, or imitations of these. Black market drobe mines make up the primary offensive armament of most salvage vessels.

Military issue

There are two versions in use. They are called Mark I & II. (a prototype for Mrk III is underway & speculation concerning a fourth)

Mk I

This is the first produced version. It is spherical, and 25 inches in diameter, with protruding thrusters. It is heat-seeking only, and once ignited, cannot shut down and then restart. When deployed(as apposed to launched) it will lock onto any vessel. If it is launched, its target can be programed, however, if it looses lock, it will self destruct to prevent it from locking onto a friendly craft.

Mk II

Spherical, and 30 inches in diameter, with internal thrusters. It's heat sensors are more advanced than it's predecessor, and it can be programed to hunt specific heat signatures. This function will work for both launch and deploy modes. It has a smaller, but more powerful warhead than Mrk I. It's thrusters and NAV systems are also more advanced.

Tactical Uses

Drobe mines are very hard to detect, until they activate. Once locked onto a target, they are difficult to shake off, unless the target goes to warp. The known uses for drobe mines include:
