Drogyn, the Battlebrand, is a fictional character in Season 5 of the television show Angel. He is played by Alec Newman.

A mystic warrior who had been alive for at least a thousand years and who had encountered Angel at some point during the twentieth century, Drogyn first appears in A Hole in the World, where it is revealed that since his previous meeting with Angel he has become the keeper of the Deeper Well, a prison for ancient dead demons.

Angel and Spike travel to the Cotswolds in England to the Deeper Well to try to prevent the resurrection of an ancient demon Illyria who has escaped from the well and is killing Winifred "Fred" Burkle in order to claw its way back into the world. Drogyn informs them that he can save Fred, but only by sacrificing thousands of people. Angel and Spike choose not to save Fred as they believe 'she wouldn't have wanted that.'

As Angel warns Spike, Drogyn reacts very violently to questions because he is mystically incapable of lying. This results in a great piece of dialogue between him and Spike, when Spike, having quickly lost patience with Drogyn's ambiguity over the situation, demands "What's your favorite color? What's your favorite song? Who's the goalkeeper for Manchester United and how many fingers am I holding up?! You want to kill me? Try! We don't have time for your quirks!"

Drogyn returns in Power Play. He is badly injured by a demon assassin and believes it was sent by Angel. Drogyn is tricked into believing that Angel set Illyria free from the Deeper Well to prove a point to the Circle of the Black Thorn by killing a lieutenant. (This ruse was conceived by Angel, who indeed sent the assassin, to make Drogyn consider him an enemy and thus persuade the Black Thorn that he has turned evil.)

The gang go to confront Angel, leaving Drogyn and Illyria, former jailor and prisoner, playing Crash Bandicoot, a video game whose purpose neither can fathom. Marcus Hamilton, liaison to the Senior Partners, breaks into the room with the intention of taking Drogyn back to his masters. Illyria attempts to fight Hamilton, but is badly beaten. Hamilton kidnaps Drogyn and leaves him at the mercy of The Circle of the Black Thorn. Drogyn is brutally tortured and beaten before being offered to Angel as a sacrifice as part of his initiation ritual.

PLEASE DISCUSS CHARACTER ADDITTIONS/REMOVALS BEFORE MAKING CHANGES AT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Buffyverse#Buffyverse-box_character_inclusions)

This box cannot/shouldn't be including every Buffyverse character. Some suggested guidelines are:

"The people who appeared in the opening credits (Scooby Gang & Fang Gang/FG) appear in the box, and the most important villains/friends who had a significant emotional impact on multiple of those opening credits characters - as long as they have a significant episode count, and preferably if they appear in three or more seasons."
