Biography
Character history
In 1860, at approximately 18 to 24 years of age, Drusilla was a beautiful young Catholic woman from London that lived with her parents and sisters. She was "blessed" with foresight and she was capable of occasionally foretelling the future, especially tragic situations. However she believed this to be an evil affliction and wished to enter a nunnery to cleanse herself of them. Darla saw Drusilla and showed her to Angelus. Darla knew about Drusilla's psychic abilities and believed it would be in their best interests to turn her into a vampire. Angelus, however, sensed her purity and became obsessed with destroying her, as Drusilla had the potential for sainthood. Angelus harassed her for a long time, damaging Drusilla's fragile mental health. Angelus tortured and killed her entire family, causing her to leave for a convent in Prague. On the day she was to take her holy vows, Angelus made her watch as he killed every person in the convent, engaged in sexual relations with Darla, and presumably raped her. The trauma of Angelus' atrocities drove her insane, for which he chose to turn her into a vampire, as he considered her a masterpiece, a testament of his talent. After being sired, Drusilla, now a childlike sexual predator, joined Angelus and Darla on their murderous travels. In 1880, Drusilla sired the young poet William Pratt, who also joined the group. William, later Spike, and Drusilla shared an intimate relationship, though Angelus continued to engage in sexual relations with Dru, mostly to annoy William.
Drusilla's story before her appearance in Sunnydale unfolds in flashbacks scattered among numerous episodes of both "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel". They were not presented in chronological order. A guide to finding the flashback or flashbacks to a particular event is at .
When Angelus was cursed with a soul and became Angel, Spike and Drusilla then went their separate ways from Darla and Angel. In 1997, Drusilla and Spike traveled to Sunnydale in "School Hard" as they plotted the downfall of Buffy Summers. They never succeeded in killing Buffy; Drusilla, however, was successful in killing Kendra the Vampire Slayer by hypnotising her and slicing into her throat. Kendra is the only Slayer whom Drusilla is known to have killed.
When Angel reverted to Angelus after a night of perfect happiness with Buffy, Spike became jealous of Angel's increasing interest in Drusilla, causing the couple to drift apart. Their alienation from one another resulted in their leaving Sunnydale, after Spike choked Drusilla unconscious while Buffy and Angel fought.
It was not until 2001 that Drusilla reappeared. Wolfram & Hart took Drusilla to Los Angeles to re-sire the resurrected and now human Darla. Drusilla, who loved Darla like a parent, genuinely believed she was doing Darla a favor by re-siring her and was puzzled by Darla's brief rage before her renewed vampire nature kicked in. Reconciled, the two wreaked havoc in the city until Angel set them on fire. The two went underground to heal, but Drusilla, now an older vampire, left Darla, who was then protected by Lindsey McDonald. Drusilla returned to Sunnydale to persuade Spike to join Darla and herself in re-forming their "family" unit. However, Spike threatened to stake her to demonstrate his love for Buffy. Disappointed by her former love, Drusilla departed. Although it might be presumed that she rejoined Darla when the latter left Los Angeles, Darla was alone when she returned during Season Three of Angel. Drusilla's current whereabouts and activities, if she is still "alive," remain unrevealed. It might reasonably be presumed that Drusilla never learned that Darla was pregnant, since the very family-conscious Drusilla would've no doubt been immediately dedicated to Darla and Angel's child Connor.
Drusilla's madness (as exhibited, especially, in her often-strange dialogue) makes her an interesting character and shows how evil she is. Her speech is often peppered with non sequitur; for example, like "Spike, do you love my insides? The parts you cannot see?".
In 2002, the First Evil impersonated Drusilla in a bid to finally tip Spike over the edge of the mental cliff.
Powers & Abilities
Drusilla has the standard powers and vulnerabilities of a vampire. She is immortal, regenerates damage, drains human blood to survive and is stronger than most human beings. She is vulnerable to holy items and sunlight and can be killed by decapitation or a stake to the heart. She cannot enter the home of a living human without being invited by someone who lives there first. Drusilla is a seer with minor psychic abilities. She receives vivid visions that contain possible glimpses of the future and can also hypnotise people by catching their gazes; she can also see into people's minds and project false imagery into them, including inside dreams.Romantic Relationships
- Spike - Drusilla was romantically involved with Spike for a long time. They were one of the few vampires who actually loved each other. They shared more than a century travelling around the world, keeping each other company and enjoying themselves. Dru, however, cheated on Spike with a demon in South America after realizing that Spike had feelings towards Buffy.
- Angelus - Drusilla was sired by Angelus and had an unhealthy relationship with him. She refers to him as her "bad daddy."
- Xander Harris - She had a crush on Xander Harris under a spell (Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered).
- Rupert Giles - She once kissed Rupert Giles.
- Chaos demon
- Fungus Demon
- Had a threesome with The Immortal and Darla.
