Dudley (Street Fighter)
Encyclopedia : D : DU : DUD : Dudley (Street Fighter)
Dudley is a character from Capcom's Street Fighter III fighting game series.
Fighting Techniques
Dudley's Cross Counter is a homage to the boxing manga and anime series Hajime no Ippo, in which the lead character takes a blow to the face in order to deal an even more powerful blow to the enemy's face. His Machine Gun Blow is also similar to the particular style of drawing multiple rapid-fire jabs in that series. And finally, his "Rolling Thunder" Super Art is simply an extended, sped up Dempsey roll.Character Analysis
In Street Fighter III : 3rd Strike, Dudley is usually agreed upon being upper tier. His major strengths include having incredible juggle (usually character specific) and wake-up game within the corner and a very fast ground overhead. Outside of the corner, Dudley is still a reasonable threat, with powerful and fairly safe pokes that he can link to other moves, potentially leading to additional mid screen juggles (and then ultimately leading to forcing the opponent into the corner).Story
As a Street Fighter III character, Dudley has no official biography. He was born in England to a wealthy family. From the time he was a little boy, he's wanted to be a fighter, but his family told him he was too small to compete.Later, his father lost the family fortune. Gill acquired his Jaguar at an auction. The losses prompted Dudley to take up boxing to earn back lost assets. Although he didn't win the third World Warrior tournament, Gill was impressed enough to give Dudley his car back.
Despite his return to affluence, Dudley still boxes.
Trivia
Wikibooks has a manual, textbook or guide to this subject:
- Dudley is a "command motion" character, as opposed to a charge motion character like preceding Street Fighter boxing character Balrog.
- Dudley's most recognizable quote is, "Let's fight like gentlemen."
- Like many SFIII characters, Dudley's fighting style is influenced by previous Street Fighter characters. Many assume Dudley to be influenced by Balrog, due to both of them being boxers. However, upon closer inspection, Dudley's style is very different to that of Balrog.
- Dudley's Jet Uppercut is a mimicry of Ansatsuken fighters' (Ken and Ryu) Shoryuken, but differs in that Dudley turns quickly after striking the opponent, and rises higher with less horizontal range. Thus it is not as suitable to anti-air purposes.
- Dudley can be seen in the background of the England stage in Capcom vs. SNK 2, reading a newspaper.
