Dupont Plaza Hotel

Encyclopedia : D : DU : DUP : Dupont Plaza Hotel

The Dupont Plaza Hotel and Casino was a hotel built in 1964 located on the beach in Condado, Puerto Rico, a district of San Juan.

At around 3:30 in the afternoon of December 31, 1986, a massive fire was set at the Dupont Plaza by three disgruntled employees during a labor dispute. Flammable liquid was placed in a storage room on the ground floor of the hotel. The fire led to the death of 97 people and injured 140. This is considered to be the most catastrophic hotel fire in Puerto Rican history.

In the years that followed the fire, the hotel was repaired and today it is the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.
