The E&T Movement, also referred to simply as E+T, is a subgenre of Cardcaptor Sakura fanfiction postulating a non-canonical romance between Tomoyo Daidouji and Eriol Hiiragizawa. It enjoyed its greatest vogue in the period from 2002 to 2004. E+T fanfiction is still relatively common today.

Speculation

At the end of Cardcaptor Sakura, both Tomoyo and Eriol are left in precarious positions in the eyes of many fans. Tomoyo has achieved her goal of Sakura finding and acknowledging "the one she loves best" -- but that person is Syaoran, not her. Eriol has returned to England with Kaho Mizuki.

Kaho is disliked by many CCS fans, who are convinced she will inevitably abandon Eriol as she did Touya before him.

Since both characters are extremely popular within the CCS fandom, quite a few fans have speculated that it would have been better for Tomoyo and Eriol to have ended up together, rather than with Tomoyo alone and Eriol in a "bad" relationship.

Fanwork

The first E+T stories appeared soon after the end of Cardcaptor Sakura in the manga and anime. The pairing was at its most popular in the period from 2002-2004, which happened to coincide with a massive expansion of Internet fan publishing. The rate of publication of new E+T material has died down substantially since then, as fan writers turn their attention to newer series such as Tsubasa Chronicle and D.N.Angel.

Objections

Many CCS fans objected to the E+T movement when it arose, and persist in doing so. The principal objection is that Tomoyo's fixation on Sakura is such an essential part of her character that she will never give it up. A corollary argument asserts that even if she did, Tomoyo would instead turn to another girl or woman, not Eriol.
