E-123 Omega, or, technically, E-123 Ω, is a fictional robot from the Sonic the Hedgehog gaming universe, first appearing as a playable character in the multiplatform game Sonic Heroes, which was first released in Japan on December 30th, 2003. His character designer is either Yuji Uekawa or Takashi Iizuka. He bears a strong resemblance to another character in the series, E-102 Gamma, and was probably based on him. Although he is similar to Gamma, he is quite a bit shorter. His intentions are also not as noble, as Gamma destroys only what needs to be destroyed, while Omega simply decimates anything that could possibly pose a threat or be an impedement. However, they are both heroes, nonetheless. He stands at about 4'5" tall, and weighs around 1,584 to 1,980 lbs.

Omega is one of Dr. Eggman's E-100 series robots. At first, Dr. Eggman deactivated him and placed him in an abandoned base to work on his next line of robots, the E-1000s and the E-2000.

When Rouge the Bat went looking for Eggman's secret treasure in his base, she accidentally reactivated E-123 Omega and released Shadow the Hedgehog from a stasis pod. Omega mistook Shadow for a robot in his scans (possibly due to his being encased in a stasis pod, in which many Shadow Androids are later discovered), and attempted to take out the hedgehog with the rest of the base. However, Rouge breaks up the fighting long enough to hear both their stories.

It turns out that Omega is infuriated at Eggman for tossing him in the abandoned base and is determined to get his revenge on him. He also wants to prove that he's the ultimate E-series robot. Teaming up with Rouge and Shadow, he becomes the power member of Team Dark.

After several adventures, Omega and his team finally defeat Metal Sonic disguised as Dr. Eggman. Omega then sets about destroying Eggman's Shadow Androids. Rouge tells Omega that Shadow, the one they know, is a robot, and then turns to leave. Omega says, with a slight sign of compassion, that in order for there to be clones the original must still exist (it is later revealed in the true ending of the game Shadow the Hedgehog that the Shadow in Sonic Heroes is in fact the real one).

Later, Omega teams up with Shadow and Rouge against Metal Overlord. Omega is last seen during that event with Shadow next to him and Metal Sonic in his arms. Since his debut in Sonic Heroes, he didn't appear much, except for a passing mention by Rouge in Sonic Battle.

Nevertheless, he made an appearance in Shadow the Hedgehog, still with the sole intention of getting revenge on Eggman. He assists Shadow in Hero missions by teaming up to destroy Eggman machines, and even helps him battle the Iron Jungle Egg Breaker and Lava Shelter Egg Dealer bosses. In Expert Mode, it is arguable Omega is merely there for comic relief (hence his quote in Lava Shelter).

Although Omega's appearances are minor, it is possible that he will appear in future Sonic games, the Sonic X cartoon, or even the Archie comics.

Abilities

Personality

E-123 Omega is among the few robots besides the E-100 series and Metal Sonic to have a free will and a personality. He sees himself as superior to other robots and is quite egotistical. Omega also has a particular dislike for the E-2000 model, which Eggman immediately began working on after shutting Omega down. It also seems that he lacks any sort of negativity towards Sonic and his friends, either because Eggman is his main target or because the doctor never programmed Sonic in as an enemy. Another possibility is that Sonic was programmed as an enemy, so Omega does not destroy him to deliberately disobey Eggman. It's also possible that since Eggman is a common enemy, Omega may view Sonic as an ally.

His personality appears cold and ruthless, and his only goals in life are to take revenge on Eggman for disabling him, and destroy the doctor's other robots to prove himself superior. Despite his rough exterior, Omega really does have a heart, even if he doesn't show it. It is possible that because he hangs around with Rouge, her emotional nature might just be rubbing off on him. This is shown at the end of Sonic Heroes, in which Omega comforts an upset Rouge - albeit in a distant, matter-of-fact manner.

In certain endings of Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow decides to take over the world, but Omega seems unconcerned, and also makes occasional remarks about world domination himself. Also in Shadow the Hedgehog, it is hinted at that Omega considers Shadow a friend, or ally, as he does not attempt to stop or destroy him when Eggman lies and says Shadow is an android.

Relations

Being a robot, Omega has no "family", to speak of. However, there are several figures prominent in his creation.
