Famous residents include actor Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott in the BBC sitcom The Vicar of Dibley), it is the final resting place of T. S. Eliot (T. S. Eliot named one of the "Four Quartets" poems after the village) and it is the birthplace of the legendary buccaneer William Dampier.
