East Sydney, New South Wales

Encyclopedia : E : EA : EAS : East Sydney, New South Wales

See also Sydney.
East Sydney is a small inner-east locality in Sydney, Australia. It is situated immediately east of the Sydney central business district adjacent to Hyde Park and is technically part of Darlinghurst, adjacent to Hyde Park.

The suburb remains primarily a residential area, and council proposals for street closures in 2005 mean it will probably stay that way. Stanley and Crown Streets feature many restaurants with different cuisines. Italian is the most popular, as East Sydney was Sydney's primary Italian community in the 1960s and 1970s and the area is still sometimes called Little Italy.
