Eastern Catalan
Encyclopedia : E : EA : EAS : Eastern Catalan
Eastern Catalan is a set of Catalan language dialects spoken in l'Alguer, Balearic Islands, Eastern Catalonia and Northern Catalonia. With respect to Western varieties, the most noticeable characteristic is that unstressed [a], [e] and [ɛ] are changed to schwa ([ə]). Unstressed [o] and [ɔ] are also changed to [u], except for Alguerese and Majorcan, which prefer [o].
