Eastern states of Australia

Encyclopedia : E : EA : EAS : Eastern states of Australia

The eastern states of Australia are the states on the eastern coast of Australia. They are (in order of population) New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania.

Sometimes the term is used to refer to the eastern mainland states. In that case, the island state of Tasmania is not included.

On some occasions the state of South Australia is also included in this grouping.

Regardless of which definition is used, the eastern states include the vast majority — more than 80% — of the Australian population.
