EdVoice is an educational non-profit organization dedicated to improving public schools in California. The organization was established in 2001 by a group of California’s leading educational philanthropists, guided by the belief that the future of the state will be shaped by the quality of education that public schools deliver. Many of EdVoice’s founders were part of the coalition that helped pass Proposition 39, a statewide ballot initiative that changed the state law that prevented many communities from repairing old schools and building new ones.

The EdVoice network connects over 25,000 teachers, parents, and community leaders with their state elected officials on important educational issues. This is important as much of the policy that affects public schools is determined at state level.

Four former state Secretaries of Education have joined leaders from business, academia, and government as members of EdVoice's Advisory Board. EdVoice works to pass laws that help public schools do a better job preparing students to meet the challenges of the future. Key issues include improving school funding and fighting to close the achievement gap.

EdVoice's advisory board includes some of California's most prominent education philanthropists: developer Eli Borad, Netflix founder Reed Hastings, Silicon Valley venture capitalist John Doerr, and Gap founder Don Fisher, According to Capitol Weekly News.

EdVoice has formed an independent expenditure committee to support pro-education candidates and issues in California. The committee is able to spend any amount in support of the candidate as long as it does not coordinate its activities with candidates or their campaign staffs.
