Eddy Gordo
Encyclopedia : E : ED : EDD : Eddy Gordo
Eduardo "Eddy" Gordo is a video game character in the Tekken series.
History
Tekken 3
Eddy fights in the Brazilian dance-fighting style of Capoeira. When his influential parents are killed by the mafia, his father's dying advice to Eddy was that he get himself sent to prison where he would be safe from the mafia. In prison, he befriended a Capoeira "mestre" (master) who became his teacher. After release from prison, he enters the third King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 to discover who murdered his father. In his ending, he learns that Kazuya Mishima was somehow involved.Tekken 4
Fulfilling a promise made in prison, Eddy finds Christie Monteiro, the granddaughter of his mentor, and trains her in Capoeira. He then disappears to pursue his agenda of vengeance. Christie (replacing Eddy as the game's starring capoeira user) enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to search for Eddy.Tekken 5
Christie and Eddy enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 to help Christie's ailing grandfather, who is suffering from a rare illness, though Eddy hasn't lost sight of his desire to avenge his parents. In story mode, Eddy confronts Kazuya about his parents' murder.Trivia
- In Tekken 3 and Tekken TAG Tournament, Eddy had an alternate costume named Tiger Jackson, a black man with an afro and ostentatious sunglasses. Tiger has never been mentioned in the story, so it's unknown whether this is an alter-ego for Eddy, or a totally separate person.
- Eddy's movements were digitized from video of Mestre Marcelo ( [Capoeira Mandinga] ).
- There has been some talk of whether Eddy and Christie have been good for the game of capoeira. On one hand they have popularized capoeira, but on the other they are adding to the misconceptions about the art. Capoeira still has strong underlying philosophies which haven't been separated to create a corporate sport like has happened to most martial arts.
- Eddy Gordo's nickname, Faísca, means "spark" in Portuguese. "Gordo" generally means "fat" in Portuguese and Spanish, but can also mean "large" or "important" (for example, one term for winning a major lottery prize in Spanish is sacar el gordo - figuratively translating to "win the big one").
- Some of Eddy's moves are breakdancing, not capoeira. Specifically the flare and windmill movements.
- In Tekken 5 (unlike in Tekken 4), Eddy and Christie do not play exactly alike, as five of Eddy's throws (taken from his appearances in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament), are different from Christie's, and his hit ranges are different: making his combo opportunities subtly different.
- In Tekken 5.0 & Tekken 5.1, Eddy does not have his own character space and is actually an extra costume that must be purchased for Christie. He can not be customized.
- In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Eddy is a separately selectable character that may be customized like any other with three color regions and unique items. Eddy has changes and additions in his movelist as compared to 5.0/5.1, though all of the same changes were made to Christie.
