The Edmonton Ice were a junior ice hockey team based in Edmonton, Alberta that played two seasons in the Western Hockey League in 1996-97 and 1997-98. The team was granted as an expansion team. Conflicts with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League relegated the Ice to also-ran status in the city of Edmonton, as they were forced to play in the substandard Northlands Agricom instead of the preferred Rexall Place. After only two seasons in which the team lost games on the ice and fistfulls of money off it, the team decamped for Cranbrook, British Columbia in 1998, where they became the Kootenay Ice. Notable Edmonton Ice alumni include Jarret Stoll and Kyle Wanvig.
