Ekkayuth Anchanbutr is a Thai businessman and political activist.
Ekkayuth was formerly the leader of the controversial Charter Investment scheme, which collapsed in 1983. Ekkayuth fled Thailand in 1984 after being charged with operating an illegal pyramid scheme, but returned in 2004 after all court cases against him were concluded and his bankrupt status was removed. Ekkayuth's personal wealth is estimated to be in the billions, but he claims that this was earned entirely legally via stockmarket investments.
Ekkayuth soon returned to the limelight with his Thailand Insider website, which was heavily critical of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The website was temporarily blocked by Thai authorities on June 21, 2005 and again on December 15.
