El'ad
Encyclopedia : E : EL : ELA : El'ad
El'ad, also spelled Elad (Hebrew: אלעד) is a town (local council) in the Center District of Israel. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in 2005 the city had a total population of 22,600.
History
The town was built from scratch according to modern planning paradigms, quite like Modi'in and the nearby Shoham and officially declared a local council in 1998. However El'ad is also unique as it was built as a part of the solution to the acute problem of housing for Haredi families. Accordingly, the city was planned in a way that would suit the Haredi lifestyle - with larger than average apartments to accommodate Haredi families who tend to have many children and easy access to religious education institutions.Geography
El'ad is located about 25 km east of Tel Aviv on the road from Rosh HaAyin to Modi'in.External links
